Oyo Health Commissioner, Ajetunmobi Charges NTD Coordinators On Service Delivery

 

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi has charged the Coordinators of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) in the State on proper service delivery so as to achieve the ultimate goal of eliminating NTDs in Oyo State.

Dr. Ajetunmobi gave this charge during a meeting with the NTD Coordinators across the 33 LGA of the State. She maintained that the State is doing its best with support from Partners to ensure that NTDs is completely eliminated in Oyo State.

She therefore charged them to see their services as a call to serve the State and therefore contribute their own quota to the success story. She urged them to align with the recent change in leadership position of the State NTD Coordinator, adding that the they were following the directives from the Federal Ministry of Health.

She said,

“We are guided by a recent directive from the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), which emphasizes the importance of central coordination for all public health programs. This directive underscores the need for a unified approach, ensuring that our interventions are consistent, well-coordinated, and based on the latest public health guidelines and best practices”

She appreciated the contribution of the former State Coordinator for his service and dedication, and also charged the new State Coordinator to be build on the successes on ground and comfront the challenges met headlong.
She further said,
“To the former State Coordinator, I extend my deepest gratitude for your service and dedication. You have contributed your quota, and we appreciate . To the new State Coordinator, welcome to your role. Your leadership and vision will be crucial as we continue to build on our successes and address the challenges ahead”

The Commissioner noted that while some of their challenges are being addressed, there’s also the need to address some key priorities which include;
* Clear communication and information sharing for successful coordination
* Standardizing procedures and protocols
* Capacity building and training for a competent workforce
* Community engagement strategies to build on success.

The Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Dr. Akintunde Ayinde, appreciated the efforts and commitment of the NTD Coordinators in discharging their duties and charged them to be free to communicate their challenges on the field to the Management, noting that the highlighted challenges by the Coordinators will be worked upon so as to record more success stories as regards the elimination of NTDs in Oyo State.

Similarly, the PS, TESCOM, expressed his happiness towards his invitation to the meeting and applauded the Commissioner for this kind of interactive meeting. In the same trajectory, the Director of Public Health expressly commended the HCH for creating time to listen to the actual field officers with a view to having undiluted information. He further said that in her Honour’s usual characteristics, this will be the third engagement with the health workers at the grassroots level. She has had meetings with the DSNOs and TBLSs. Dr. Ebunoluwa Adeoye, the State NTD Coordinator, appreciated the excellent work of the Commissioner and the LGA NTD Coordinators. WHO and Living Word Ministry delivered goodwill messages.

The Director of Nursing Services, Dr. Oyebode, the Director of Tertiary Health, Dr. Fasasi, and the Director of Food, Water, and Laboratory Services, Mrs. Akande, were also present at the meeting.
