Ido LG Opens Primary Animal Health Centre to Enhance Veterinary Services

The Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, on Thursday commissioned a newly completed Primary Animal Health Centre at the headquarters of the local government, describing the facility as a major step towards strengthening livestock production, food security and rural development.
The health centre, located within the Ido Local Government Secretariat, is expected to provide veterinary healthcare services for livestock farmers and animal owners across the council area and neighbouring communities.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, farmers’ associations, veterinary professionals, political leaders and residents drawn from the 10 wards of the local government.
Speaking at the event, Adeojo said the establishment of the centre reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting agriculture and improving the livelihoods of residents through strategic investments in the livestock sector.
According to him, livestock farming remains a major source of income for many households in the area, making access to quality veterinary services essential for improved productivity.
“Livestock farming is a major source of livelihood for our people. This Primary Animal Health Centre will provide affordable veterinary services, disease prevention, vaccination, treatment and expert advice to our farmers. Healthy animals mean healthy families and a stronger local economy,” he said.

The council chairman explained that the facility is equipped with consultation rooms, a pharmacy and treatment units for both small and large ruminants. He urged veterinary personnel deployed to the centre to discharge their duties with professionalism while maintaining close collaboration with livestock farmers and community leaders.
Adeojo also encouraged farmers and animal owners in Ido and adjoining communities to make full use of the facility to improve livestock productivity and curb the spread of zoonotic diseases.
Representatives of the Cattle Breeders Association and the Poultry Farmers Association commended the initiative, describing the project as timely and beneficial to livestock farmers. They noted that the centre would help reduce animal mortality, increase farmers’ income and enhance meat and dairy production within the local government.
The council chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his continued support, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to prioritise agriculture-driven development, rural infrastructure and projects that directly improve the welfare of the people.
Among the dignitaries present were the South-West Zonal Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr. Kakulu Florence; the Director of Veterinary Services, Oyo State, Dr. (Mrs.) L.S. Azeez; the Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Kareem Akeem; the Project Veterinary Officer, Dr. Olayiwola AbdulAzeez; the Oyo State Epidemiology Officer, Dr. Akinwumi Babalola, alongside political office holders and senior local government officials.
