The Ogbomoso chapter of the Apero Mekunu Movement has endorsed Akeem Salawu, popularly known as Ilana Mekunu, for the Oyo Central Senatorial District election under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The endorsement was announced by leaders and members of the movement in Ogbomoso, who described Salawu as a credible representation of the ideals and aspirations of the Mekunu movement.
According to the group, Salawu has distinguished himself through his commitment to grassroots mobilisation, people-oriented politics and the pursuit of better representation for the people.
The Ogbomoso chapter said the decision to endorse Salawu was informed by its belief that he represents the “face of Mekunu” and possesses the capacity to take the movement’s message beyond the grassroots to the National Assembly.
The group further stated that Salawu’s candidacy provides an opportunity for the people of Oyo Central to have a senator who understands the realities confronting ordinary citizens and is prepared to advocate for their interests.
“Akeem Salawu is not just a candidate to us; he is a face of Mekunu and a reflection of the political ideals we believe in. His candidacy represents an opportunity to take the voice of the people to the Senate,” the group said.
The movement called on Mekunu supporters across Surulere/Ogooluwa local governments and other parts of Oyo Central to unite behind Salawu and work collectively toward his emergence on the NDC platform.
The group also expressed confidence that the growing support for Salawu across the senatorial district would translate into a strong grassroots movement ahead of the 2027 election.
With the endorsement, the Ogbomoso chapter of Apero Mekunu joins other supporters rallying behind Akeem Salawu (Ilana Mekunu) as the movement seeks to consolidate its presence across Oyo Central.
