NIGERIAN Medical Association (NMA) in Oyo State has called on the government to refurbish facilities converted to isolation centres to manage the spread of Coronavirus.
The association urged the government to assemble experts in disease outbreak and management, as well as crisis management.
A statement by the Chairman, Dr Akin Sodipo, said the group would work with the government and stakeholders to keep the state safe and prepared.
Sodipo, however, called on doctors to be set for the field, collapse all units into one army, irrespective of affiliates, groups or specialities, excluding only practitioner above 60 years, expectant mothers and the immuno-compromised.
The doctor urged the government to provide protective gear and security personnel for emergency workers.
He advised a total lockdown, if possible.
The statement reads: “NMA, Oyo State, is working with the government and stakeholders to keep our state safe and prepared … We shall continue to give the best advice and deplore skills as may be required of us.
“Thus, NMA appeals to the government to refurbish facilities converted to isolation centres; assemble experts from different disciplines involved in disease and crisis management… provide protective equipment and security for emergency workers, and ban gathering to stop spread of Coronavirus.”
