The Public Relations Officer of the Ibadan Royal Advancement Forum, Mogaji Ejilola Sefiu Abiodun, has urged the people of Oyo State and Ibadan indigenes in Nigeria and the diaspora to rally support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s reported presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abiodun made the call on Saturday while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the installation ceremony of Chief Adesola Adeduntan as the Balogun of Oyo.
He said Makinde’s decision to openly pursue the presidency represented a significant moment for Oyo State, arguing that no sitting or former governor of the state had previously openly sought the nation’s highest political office.
According to him, the development should motivate the people of the state and Ibadan indigenes to support the governor’s ambition.
“The first Governor in the history of Oyo State to contest for President of Nigeria is Seyi Makinde. If this can be true, why should Oyo State and all Ibadan indigenes not encourage him and drum up support for him?” he asked.
The forum’s spokesman described the ambition as an opportunity for Oyo State and its people to play a more prominent role in national politics.
He urged Ibadan indigenes at home and abroad to unite behind the governor and support his aspiration, saying the state should take advantage of the development to strengthen its voice and influence at the national level.
Makinde, who has served as governor of Oyo State since 2019, has been the subject of speculation over a possible presidential bid in 2027.
