The gubernatorial candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin has condemned the purported suspension of the Chairman, Ogbomosho North Local Government, Hon. Olamiju Alao-Akala, the son of former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, by four out of the ten councilors instead of six which represents two third of the majority.
Olamiju Alao-Akala who was elected as Chairman of the council in the local government election held on Saturday 12th May 2018, contested under the platform of the ruling APC was suspended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Lanlehin made the condemnation in a release signed by the Director General of Handshake Campaign Organisation, Architect Bashiru Lawal and made available to journalists in Ibadan by Director of Public Communication, New Media and Tertiary Institution for Organisation, Engineer Akeem Olatunji.
According to the release, “If the information available to us that four councillors out of ten signed the suspension letter sent to him (Lamiju) and that those councillors are yet to be sworn-in, talk less of receiving certificate of return.
“We learnt that the purported suspension was carried out at the government house, Ibadan rather than legislative chamber of the council in Ogbomosho.
His suspension was contained in a letter dated Friday February 15th 2019 and signed by four councillors from the council.
The councillors who signed the letter suspending Alao-Akala in the letter obtained by journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday included; Hon. Adebowale Oladunmoni (Deputy Leader), Hon. Zakariyau Ayinde Kabiru, Hon. Adisa Raheem Kingsley and Hon. Busari Lamidi Adesina.
The four councillors in the letter, a copy which were sent to the office of the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr. Bimbo Kolade said, “Take notice that we the undersigned councillors in Ogbomoso Local Government Area hereby passed a resolution suspending you from the office as the executive chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government for your gross misconduct”.
“If these information were to be true, the purported suspension of Lamiju is illegal, sign of do or die politics of bitterness and taken too far.
Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, Dr. Abdulazeez Olatunde, who confirmed the suspension of the son of the ex-governor to journalists on Tuesday, added that the party took the right decision by suspending Alao-Akala because he has dumped the APC to join ADP.
According to him, “Yes, we have suspended him. He crossed from the party and went to ADP. What do you want us to do?
He added that the councillors also took the right decision by suspending Alao-Akala.
“Yes, they have to do that. Don’t they impeached Ladoja? Was he not impeached? Was he not elected? The councillors are the ones like the house of Assembly in the state”.
” What Gov Ajimobi and APC demonstrated is against the tenets of democracy, it is quite unfortunate that Gov. Ajimobi with his greediness and undemocratic conduct is aspiring to replace Sen Olusoji Akanbi of ADC who is adjudged to be a performing democrat and workaholic Senator.
The good people of Oyo South must take cognisance of Ajimobi antidemocratic, selfish interest and dictatorial tendencies as such a person might be a minus to the advancement of democracy at the upper chamber of the National Assembly
“Irrespective of our political parties differences, we want to identify with Lamiju on this illegality being perpetrated by the ruling APC and the governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi”.
