Unity Forum Endorses Sunmonu As New Leader, Expresses Confidence In Lanlehin’s ADC Leadership

The breakaway faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Oyo State chapter famously called the Unity Forum has endorsed Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu as its new leader.

The group made the decision among other strategic developments on Monday at its specially conveyed meeting which was held at popular Emmanuel Alayande Teachers’ Hall, Samonda, Ibadan.

At the all embracing congress which pulled massive crowd mostly the protégés of Late Former Governor Lamidi Onaolapo Adesina, the assembly expressed its satisfaction over the role played in the last gubernatorial election in the state.

Addressing the leaders and promoters of the assembly across the 33 local government areas of the state who converged to deliberate on their activities in the just concluded general elections, the Secretary of the group, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun stressed that it was expedient to evaluate and prepare for the attendant challenges ahead.

He commended the rank and file of the body for their loyalty and steadfastness before, during and after the last general electioneering with the undue intimidation and harassment of the mobilizers of the Unity Forum by the outgoing government.

At the resolution which was greeted with wide cheers and celebrations, the group unanimously adopted the personality of Sen. Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu, the Senator representing Oyo Central senatorial district as its new head.

The congregation which was predominantly populated by political leaders of notes across the 5 geopolitical zones of the state therefore pledged their support for the successful leadership of Alhaja Sunmonu.

In her acceptance speech, the newly endorsed leader, Sen. Sunmonu thanked the ecstatic members of the group for their principle and loyalty to the cause of progressives political clan in the state against the institutionalized impunity and injustice of the APC administration piloted by Mr. Isiaka Ajimobi

She subsequently pledged an inclusive leadership to all and sundry in the group in promoting fairness and justice towards the actualization of the aims and objectives of the assembly.

Meanwhile, the Unity Forum, a mainstay of the African Democratic Congress, ADC has expressed its confidence on the leadership instincts of Sen. Olufemi Solagbade Lanlehin, the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the last general polls.

The assembly therefore reiterated its commitment to the sustainability of ADC by positing that all members of the block rigidly remain card carrying members and diehard promoters of the party.

The group aslo availed the occasion to felicitate the Governor-Elect, Engr. Oluwaseyi Makinde on his emergence as the 5th democratically elected state helmsman since the return of civil rule in 1999.

The Unity Forum said it was ready to collaborate with the incoming administration in providing purposeful governance to the expectant people of the state.

The well attended congress was graced by renowned political leaders, former and serving federal and state legislators among whom are Chief Saka Kareem (Iwajowa), Alhaji Rasaq Akilapa (Oluyole), Alhaji Bolaji Kareem (Iseyin), Alh. Rahamon Bankole (Ona – Ara), Alh. Sulaimon Ajibade(Saki West), Ayaba(Barr.) Moji Adeyemi(Oyo East), Hon. Adekunle Rafiu, former Minority Leader(Saki West), Hon. Abdulwasih Musa, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolaji Badmus, Hon. Ganiyu Ayesoro, Hon. Luqman Balogun and many ward, local government and state executive officers of ADC.
