Tinubu Approves Ibadan-Abuja Railway

President Bola Tinubu has approved
the Ibadan-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano Standard-Gauge Railway

Mr. President made the approval during the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday in Abuja.

The approved Ibadan-Abuja railway is a segment of 1,343 kilometres (835 miles)-long  Lagos–Kano Standard Gauge Railway.

Ibadan to Abuja, when completed, it will be added to the already completed Lagos-Ibadan 157-kilometer rail trip of South West Nigeria from Ebute Metta in Lagos to Moniya in Ibadan.

When fully complete, the railway will connect the Atlantic Ocean port city of Lagos to Kano, near the border with Niger, passing through the national capital of Abuja. The railway replaces the Cape gauge Western Line built by the British in 1896–1927, which has a lower design capacity and is in a deteriorated condition.
