The media team of Oyo Central senatorial hopeful, Ambassador Shakirullah Jimoh Oran’kan, has defended his political ambition and philanthropic record, while condemning what it described as “yellow journalism” and libellous publications targeted at the aspirant.

In a statement issued on Friday, the team described Oran’kan as a visionary and focused leader whose aspiration to represent Oyo Central Senatorial District was inspired by calls from stakeholders across the district.

The statement highlighted the aspirant’s humanitarian interventions across communities, including the provision of solar-powered boreholes, construction of schools, support for orphanage homes, and distribution of food palliatives to vulnerable households.

According to the media team, Oran’kan has consistently demonstrated commitment to human development, poverty eradication, youth and women empowerment, as well as care for children and the elderly.

“Ambassador Oran’kan believes in projects execution rather than empty promises. His achievements over the years are well documented and will be unveiled for public scrutiny during the campaign period,” the statement read.

The team further described the aspirant as an accomplished academic with international exposure, noting that he currently lectures at a foreign higher institution and has received recognition from the United Nations for his contributions to humanity.

It also dismissed claims that Oran’kan was relying on the popularity of popular broadcaster and philanthropist Oriyomi Hamzat to advance his political ambition, insisting that he independently enjoys widespread support across the state.

The statement revealed that Oran’kan was previously encouraged by stakeholders to contest for the governorship position in Oyo State but opted for the Senate race after consultations.

Addressing concerns over the source of his campaign funding, the media team maintained that his philanthropic activities have spanned more than a decade and are transparent, adding that anti-graft agencies including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission were carrying out their statutory responsibilities without interference.

The team warned individuals behind what it termed defamatory publications to desist from spreading falsehood, threatening legal action against those responsible for libellous reports.

“We challenge critics to engage in constructive and ideology-based discourse rather than propaganda and character assassination,” the statement added.

The group also appealed to supporters of the aspirant to remain steadfast and avoid distractions, expressing confidence that Oran’kan’s vision would usher in a more prosperous future for the district.
