Ibadan North-East Chairman’s Wife Hosts LG Counterparts, Advocates Women Inclusion in Governance


The Wife of the Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Mrs. Khadijat Akintayo, has convened a high-level meeting of her counterparts across Ibadan, aimed at strengthening women’s participation in leadership and grassroots development.
The engagement, held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Ibadan North-East Local Government Secretariat, Iwo-Road, brought together wives of Local Government Chairmen from across the metropolis for deliberations on advancing women inclusion in governance.

The delegation was led by Mrs. Monsurat Sanda of Egbeda Local Government and included representatives from Ibadan South-West, Ibadan South-East, Ona-Ara, Oluyole, Lagelu, Akinyele, Ibadan North, and Ibadan North-West Local Governments.
The forum provided a platform for participants to assess the current state of women’s involvement in politics and leadership, while exploring collaborative strategies to enhance their contributions alongside their male counterparts.
In her remarks, Mrs. Akintayo commended the commitment of wives of Chairmen, wives of Councillors, and women leaders across wards in Ibadan North-East Local Government, noting their critical role in strengthening democratic structures at the grassroots.
She emphasized the need for sustained advocacy, unity, and proactive engagement, stressing that increased female participation in leadership remains essential for national growth and inclusive development.

The Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, who made a brief appearance at the event, lauded the contributions of the women, including members of the “O MU YES” Ladies group, describing their roles as vital in deepening democracy and promoting sustainable development.
Also present at the meeting were the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Omolara Aremu, and the Director of Education and Social Services, Mrs. Caroline Fatunmbi, who delivered the welcome address. Staff of the Department of Education and Social Services were also in attendance.
The meeting underscores the commitment of the Ibadan North-East Local Government administration to fostering inclusive governance and empowering women as key drivers of development at the grassroots level.
