Council Boss, Akintayo Urges Residents To Take Proactive Steps To Prevent Cholera Outbreak In Ib’ Northeast LG

 

Due to the recent outbreak of cholera in some parts of Lagos State, which has claimed several lives and affected many more, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo fondly called (O mu Yes) is urging residents to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of cholera in the council area.

In a release signed by the Council’s Information Officer, Ikeoye Oyetoro, the Chairman noted that the recent cholera outbreak in Lagos, which has been linked to the consumption of contaminated water and inadequate sanitation has highlighted the need for increased vigilance and precautionary measures to prevent a similar outbreak in the council area and Oyo State at large

“Cholera is a highly infectious and potentially deadly disease that can spread rapidly through contaminated water, food, and human contact and pose a significant threat to public health but can be prevented and treated with proper sanitation, hygiene, and medical care.” Akintayo said.

The Council Boss emphasized the importance of personal hygiene and proper sanitation in preventing the spread of cholera noting that the local government is working closely with relevant health authorities to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to prevent and control the spread of cholera.

The Chairman also announced that the local government has intensified its sanitation efforts, including increased waste collection and disposal, provision of clean water, and public enlightenment campaigns.

Hon Akintayo therefore appealed to residents of Ibadan North East Local Government to cooperate with the local government in its efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

“We must work together to prevent the outbreak of cholera in our community, I urge everyone to take the necessary precautions and to report any suspected cases of cholera to the nearest health facility immediately. Let us join hands to keep our community safe and healthy.” Akintayo concluded.
