The federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DON), has facilitated the enrolment of over 100 residents into a health insurance scheme under his healthcare initiative, DON CARE, to provide access to covered medical services for the next one year.

The enrolment exercise, held at the Ibadan North Local Government Secretariat in Ibadan, is aimed at improving access to healthcare, reducing the financial burden of medical expenses on residents and promoting a healthier constituency.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Seun Olufade (Onala), described the initiative as timely, noting that it would help ease the financial constraints associated with accessing healthcare.

Olufade commended the federal lawmaker for prioritising the health and welfare of his constituents, adding that initiatives of this nature would make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents.

Similarly, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North State Constituency I, Hon. Olufunke Comforter Olajide, said Oyekunle had once again demonstrated that competence transcends timing through his commitment to delivering people-oriented programmes.

She maintained that his emergence as the representative of the constituency was not a mistake, urging residents to embrace the initiative and take advantage of the opportunity to improve their health and well-being.

In his remarks, elder statesman and African People’s Movement (APM) chieftain, Baba Ismaila Ashipa, applauded Oyekunle for extending his interventions to the healthcare sector.

Ashipa, who declared that “DON has done it again,” urged constituents to continue supporting the lawmaker and the APM, expressing confidence that sustained support at the polls would enable Oyekunle to continue his ongoing developmental interventions.

The Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), Dr. Olusola Akande, appealed to beneficiaries to make effective use of the scheme and take their health seriously.

Akande explained that the insurance package covers specified healthcare services, encouraging beneficiaries to familiarise themselves with the provisions of their coverage and utilise the available medical services whenever necessary.

He commended the lawmaker for taking the necessary steps to facilitate the programme in partnership with OYSHIA, describing access to healthcare as an important component of community development.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Oyekunle said the DON CARE initiative was conceived out of the need to ensure a healthier constituency and improve residents’ access to essential medical services.

He explained that the programme became possible through collaboration with OYSHIA, stressing that his commitment to his constituents goes beyond infrastructure and includes interventions that directly affect their health and quality of life.

The lawmaker urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity, noting that the selected participants were drawn directly from among residents of the constituency, irrespective of their political affiliations.

According to him, the initiative reflects his commitment to inclusive representation and ensuring that the benefits of public service reach the people who need them.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the federal lawmaker for facilitating the health insurance scheme, describing it as a welcome intervention that would help reduce the burden of medical expenses. They also reaffirmed their support for the APM.
