Concerned Stakeholders Call on APC Leaders, Ambassador Florence Ajimobi to Rescue Party from Internal Crisis Ahead of Primaries, General Elections

A group of stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has called on relevant, unbiased, and forward-thinking leaders as well as the Nigerian ambassador to Austria Chief Mrs Florence Ajimobi to save the party from drowning in the current internal wrangling threatening its chances ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group, in a unanimous statement issued by its members, warned that if the lingering internal crisis continues unabated, it could endanger the survival of the party and weaken its chances of defeating the incumbent administration.

According to the group statement “It will be unfair for us all to stand by unconcerned about the ongoing internal wrangling within the party, orchestrated by ambitions and superiority battles among some ranks in the party.”

The stakeholders maintained that political aspirations should not become the reason the party remains divided and weakened. “It is our belief that we should all have learnt from the experiences of 2019 and 2023. The two consecutive election defeats should be enough reason for us to build a formidable and united front capable of reclaiming the government from Governor Seyi Makinde and also to caution those fanning the ember of division within the party at this crucial political time.

Speaking further on the party’s primary process, the group stressed that the Electoral Act provides for either direct primaries or consensus arrangements, noting that any consensus candidate must emerge through a properly ratified special congress in the interest of internal democracy. According to them, “the question now is: can we successfully and peacefully conduct either a direct primary or a consensus congress? The group asked

The group further noted that Oyo State, being the Pacesetter State, should be setting positive political examples as a progressive state but “sadly, we are not getting it right as a progressive party and are not setting any good examples for others because of the approach being played by some political aspirants and privileged stakeholders.

They added that “by now, all of us should understand that President Bola Tinubu is too busy with national assignments to be personally calling individuals for meetings over these issues. Why can’t we, as one political family, sit together and resolve these matters ourselves? “APC is not bereft of responsible and forward-thinking leaders in Oyo State who can save the party from drowning once again. Truthfully, we cannot proceed into the primary elections with this obviously divided house if we do not want to bury the last lifeline the party has in Oyo State.”

The stakeholders therefore called on respected forward-thinking leaders within the party, most especially, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Florence Ajimobi (Nigeria Ambassador to Austria) to urgently intervene by reconciling aggrieved members and fostering peace amongst aspirants ahead of the party primaries and the 2027 general elections and advise the various aspirants to swallow their ego and embrace peace
In their conclusion, the group reiterated that “we are deeply concerned, without urgent intervention, the situation may escalate into avoidable disruption that may result in heavy political Armageddon and erode the morale of all the committed party members
