Special Assistant on Media to Hon. Muraina Ajibola of Ibarapa North and Central, Mr. Olubunmi Sodipo has reacted to total credit giving to Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor of Oyo State on the approval of the approved Igangan Divisional Police Headquarters, claimed it was his employer effort, corroborated by other that got the approval of the police headquarters to Igangan.
Sodipo said Hon. Ajibola was initiator of the Police headquarters and was assisted by Senator Kola Balogun, Hon. Okediji and some community associations, explained that, Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor only made necessary arrangements for the take off of the approved Igangan Divisional Police Headquarters after it was approved.
His reaction read :
IGANGAN DIVISIONAL POLICE HEADQUARTERS: LET US GIVE CREDIT TO WHOM IT IS DUE.
Our attention had been drawn to an attempt by an individual to use the interest and the follow up efforts of The Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor of Oyo State in writing a letter requesting for the necessary arrangements for the take off of the approved Igangan Divisional Police Headquarters as the basis to claim credit for the upgrade of the Abuja Type II Igangan Police Station to Igangan Divisional Police Headquarters.
This is at best an attempt to belittle the humble efforts of Hon Ajibola Muraina and at worst a ploy to draw the Executive Assistant on Security into an unnecessary and futile controversy.
However, the Igangan community and the whole World know about the step-by-step efforts of Hon Ajibola Muraina which led to the upgrade of the Abuja Type II Igangan Police Station to the status of a Divisional Police Headquarters and it has become necessary to acquaint a wider audience with these efforts.
Administratively, it is the prerogative of a community that desires an upgrade in the status of the police command in their community to write a request to the police authorities for such an upgrade or alternatively, they can get their local government authority to write on their behalf. This is why Hon Ajibola Muraina, having visited the then IGP on 5th March, 2020 ( in the company of Distinguished Senator Kola Balogun) and gotten an oral approval for the upgrade, prompted Hon Olusegun Okedeji, then Caretaker Chairman, Ibarapa North West Local Council Development Area to write a letter to this effect which the latter did as far back as 30th March, 2020.
Also at the promptings of Hon Ajibola Muraina, and to complement the 30th March 2020 letter by Hon Olusegun Okedeji from his office as Caretaker Chairman, the Igangan National Union followed up with a letter of their own dated July 7th 2020 signed by Hon Olusegun Okedeji as Chairman, Com Lawal Akeem as Secretary and HRM Oba Lasisi Olawuyi Adeoye, Gbadewolu I Aribiyan II, Asigangan of Igangan. Similarly, the Igangan Community Development Association also wrote a letter dated 9th April, 2021 unto the same purpose, with the same three signatories as above.
Meanwhile, Hon Ajibola Muraina had taken the matter up at the National Assembly with legislative instruments (motions and reminders) on the floor of the House of Representatives, as well as, writing the IGP and attaching a documentation of the votes and proceedings of the House on his motion of December 1, 2020 in which he specifically asked for “a review of the security architecture of Ibarapa Central LG; Ibarapa North LG; Ibarapa East LG, Oyo State in particular and Nigeria in general and upgrade Igangan Police Station to a Divisional Police Headquarters for effective policing of the area.” Finally, the upgrade was announced within twelve, 12 hours of Hon Ajibola Muraina strong reminder to the IGP and Federal Authorities in his motion of June 8, 2021 on the invasion of Igangan.
From the foregoing account, it is crystal clear that:
1. The efforts of Hon Ajibola Muraina on the upgrading of the Abuja Type II Igangan Police Station to Igangan Divisional Police Headquarters predate the May 24, 2021 letter, purportedly and allegedly being brandished by an individual as the basis for claiming credit of the development.
3. The visit of Hon Ajibola Muraina to the IGP on 5th of March,2020 , his motions on the floor of the Green Chamber on December 1, 2021 and June 8, 2021 to the knowledge of his constituents and for that matter the whole world, were directed at the IGP, who is expressly in the position to authorize the desired upgrade.
4. The IGP’s formal approval of the upgrade, which was announced in the morning of Wednesday 9th June, 2021 less than 12 hours after a strong reminder by Hon Ajibola Muraina on the floor of the House rounded off almost a year-long oral and formal legislative efforts, which cannot be contested by the May 24, 2021 letter even though it is a well-intentioned and necessary follow-up.
5. These sequence of events clearly show that it is principally the humble efforts of Hon Ajibola Muraina, through legislative interventions that led to the upgrading of the Igangan Police Command from the Abuja Type II to Igangan Divisional Police Headquarters.
It is encouraging however that the people of Igangan appreciated the humble efforts of Hon Ajibola Muraina hence, their message of congratulations through Hon Olusegun Okedeji, a constituent his, former Caretaker Chairman of Ibarapa North West Local Council Development Area and Chairman of Igangan Community Development Association, who is fully aware of Hon Ajibola Muraina’s humble efforts in this direction.
It is also important that we do not discount the interest and the follow-up efforts of The Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor of Oyo State, in writing to request the necessary arrangements for the take-off of the upgrade.
We would also like to register our appreciation of the Speaker and the entire membership of the 9th House of Representatives, Distinguished Sen. Kola Balogun (who was with Hon Ajibola Muraina when the then IGP gave the initial oral approval), the current IGP and COP.
For us, we continue to thank God Almighty for His Mercies and return all the glory, adoration and appreciation to Him and Him alone for crowning our humble efforts with success. May peace in its true sense return to Igangan in particular, Ibarapaland as a whole, Oyo State in its entirety and Nigeria in general.
