Salami Inaugurates Oyo State Extended Special Public Work Selection Committee

Residents of Oyo State will soon begin to benefit from the federal government’s initiative to employ seven hundred and seventy four thousand Nigerians nationwide, under its special public works programme.

This followed the inauguration of the Oyo State Selection Committee saddled with the responsibility of conducting the employment process in the state.

Inaugurating the members, Chairman, Oyo State Selection Committee, Mr. Ope Salami said the programme, is targeted at the unemployed in the country is to mitigate the effect of Covid-19.

Mr Salami, while reeling out facts about the federal government intervention programme, said only twenty percent of applicants would be graduates between the ages of 18 and 50 years.

He further explained that applicants can obtain a form at no cost which would soon be available through local channels, such as the National Directorate of Employment, NDE Office, traditional rulers, council areas as well as churches and mosques.

Mr. Salami said members of the committee were selected based on their pedigree to ensure the exercise was credible.

In a goodwill message, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, represented by Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe commended the federal government, saying such gesture would further reduce the effect of covid-19 on the economy.

Two members of the committee, Mrs Aminat Romoke and former Oyo State Head of Service, Mr Soji Eniade said the selection of thirty-three thousand residents of the state would be transparent.

The selection committee has the responsibility of deliberating and recommending names of applicants in the thirty-three local governments of Oyo State.

The federal government special public works is to offer one thousand employment opportunities per local government which is expected to run for three months, between October and December this year.

Beneficiaries are to perform rehabilitation and maintenance work and will be paid a stipend of twenty thousand naira per mouth.
