Olopoeyan to Makinde: You’re Behind Destruction Of Oppositions Billboards, Posters
...urges IGP to rescue opposition parties in Oyo
The Southwest leader of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan on Tuesday accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde of being behind the destruction of Billboards and posters belonging to the opposition parties in the state.
Olopoeyan who wondered why the billboards belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates are not being destroyed said it is in the record that Makinde had instructed hoodlums loyal to the chairman of Motor Park Management System (PMS) Mukaila Lamidi popularly called Auxiliary to continue destroying billboards belonging to oppositions.
The political heavyweight in Oyo State stated this in a statement he signed in Ibadan while reacting to the order given to the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) by State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams to commence full-scale investigations into the alleged destruction of party billboards in the state, said Police already knows the hoodlums but their hands are tied concerning making any attempt to arrest them because the state governor, Seyi Makinde is preventing the hoodlum’s arrest.
Speaking further, Olopoeyan said the police know who and who to arrest but are helpless. added that, PMS boys, led by Mr. Mukaila Auxiliary are going around the state to destroy political campaigns billboards unhindered because they are getting protection from the state governor, however, appealed to the Inspector General of Police to rescue opposition parties in the state, he pointed that, the leader of the hoodlum group, Mukaila Auxiliary is an agent of Governor Seyi Makinde and he must be dealt with without further delay because he cannot be more powerful than the state.”
The NNPP boss in the Southwest worried over the continuous attack on opposition parties and their properties, adding that he was aware that other security agencies in the state are finding it difficult to do their work because the powers that be in the government are the brain behind the daily attacks.
The statement reads in part; “It now a daily routine for Auxiliary and his boys to go out and destroy opposition parties campaign billboards. No political party or candidate billboard is left out, in as much, there is no PDP logo on it. The hoodlums destroy it without any consideration. Be it APC, NNPP, Accord, or SDP, the police Inspector General can deploy his men from Abuja to go around the state and check. This is not limited to Ibadan but even to Ibarapa, Oyo, and other areas of the state. The only billboards left untouched are the ones belonging to Seyi Makinde, their main sponsor, and his candidates.
“As if billboard destruction is not enough, these hoodlums are always ready to get rid of opposition party leaders and members. For Auxiliary and his boys, it is now a crime for anyone to wear or put on a face cap or T-shirt with the inscription of the opposition logo or name. They have injured and maimed several of our members for wearing NNPP caps while passing Iwo Road.
Olopoeyan further noted that if nothing is done about this development, Auxiliary and his boys may start visiting opposition homes to kill them, as their shenanigans become unbearable.
” We have made several complaints but the police are not allowed to do their work. Police in Oyo State police know what to do when they get any distress calls, they have the information about the group and know their whereabouts but the Chief security officer of the state is the chief protector of the group.
“To us in NNPP, we will not blame Police, it is clear to everybody that, Mukaila Lamidi Auxiliary is the leader of the group causing unrest in Oyo state and he is working for his paymaster, Seyi Makinde because he has made them untouchable,” the statement said.
He, therefore, urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali, to make an order to the Oyo state Police Command, for the investigation and arrest of all criminals that are on behalf of the ruling party and governor Seyi Makinde causing problems and destroying the billboards in some parts of the state.
