Indiscriminate Parking : OYRTMA Impounds Defaulting Vehicles In Ibadan

The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) yesterday restated it’s resolve to go against road traffic offenders in the State particularly trailers who deliberately usurp significant portions of major highways and public roads, converting it to their parks and garages at the detriment of other road users.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of the Authority, Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi following an enforcement operation at Podo axis of Ibadan Metropolis where more than twelve (12) loaded trailers blocked almost half of the road, subjecting other road users to their mercy for road usage.

The trailer drivers whose vehicles constituted a major risk on the road violently rejected impoundment by attacking Officers and Men of the Authority but were overpowered by the Officers in conjunction with men of the Security Joint Task Force (Operation Burst).

In his words, Dr. Fagbemi said “we impounded at least 7 trailers at the Podo area of Ibadan yesterday. This follows several months of warnings and appeal for the trailers to be parked at a more secure place other than the road corridors. Alternatives were highlighted and stern warnings were properly issued but the defaulters remained largely adamant hence the enforcement operation became inevitable in a bid to maintain sanity on the roads and safe lives of innocent road users”, he posited.

The operation was said to be a continuous one as men and officers of the Authority have recently been charged by the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde not to renege on the current tempo with which the agency operates.
