Former Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo state, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan has congratulated the Osun state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke over his victory at the Supreme Court.

Olopoeyan, the southwest leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) described the Supreme Court judgement, affirming Senator Ademola Adeleke as duly elected governor of Osun state as a “victory for democracy as well as Adeleke’s conquest over his political enemies within and outside his party, PDP.

The Supreme Court affirmed the election of Ademola Adeleke, sealing his victory over the then Osun APC governorship candidate, Adegboyega Oyetola, in the keenly contested 16 July 2022 election in the state

It will be recalled that an election tribunal earlier in January ruled in favor of Oyetola by declaring him the winner of the governorship election and sacking Adeleke who has been in office a few months before the judgment.

Adeleke, who remained in office to exhaust his right of appeal, had appealed against the decision of the tribunal, and his appeal application was successful.

Upholding Mr. Adeleke’s victory, the Court of Appeal in Abuja held that the tribunal was wrong in its conclusion that the election in some parts of the state was marred by over-voting, the pivotal legal issue on which Oyetola built his case.

Adeleke moved to the Supreme Court with the appeal filed on their behalf by their lead counsel, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, is marked: SC/ CV/510/2023 and SC/ CV/511/2023 The appellate court dismissed all appeals for lacking in merit.

Olopoeyan, who reacted to the judgment from London said; “with today’s judgment, It is my conviction that this final victory, which has never been in doubt since the conclusion of the election would allow the governor Adeleke to concentrate on his determination to champion good governance for the generality of Osun people, the reason he was voted for in the first place.

“inarguably, Senator Adeleke is the choice of his people. Today, the will of God has been justified through the Supreme Court ruling. The judgment is not only for Osun people to rejoice but also for Adeleke to see himself as a winner over his political enemies in his party PDP.

Enemies ganged up against him right from governorship primaries, worked against him during his election, and thereafter left him alone during the election cases after declared winner, today, Adeleke has been vindicated”. Olopoeyan stated
