A member of the House of Representatives, Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing unresolved internal crises within the party in Oyo State.
In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4, Isale Penbo, Igbo-Ora, in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State, the federal lawmaker said persistent conflicts within the party had negatively affected his legislative assignment and created divisions within the party leadership.
Adepoju, who represents Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, stated that the crisis rocking the PDP across the state had hindered his ability to effectively serve his constituents.
He noted that despite his loyalty and dedication to the party since securing its ticket in 2022, the lingering disputes within the PDP made it difficult for him to continue his membership.
The lawmaker described the PDP as more than a political platform to him, recalling that his father, the late Asiwaju of Igbo-Ora, Dr. Amos Ademola Adepoju, was one of the founding members of the party in 1998 and served as its National Financial Secretary between 1999 and 2002.
According to him, his resignation would allow him to focus fully on the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency.
Adepoju also expressed regret over how the decision might be received by his supporters at home and abroad, assuring them that his next political move would be announced in due course.
