A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) based in Germany, Hon. Olayinka Segelu, has wholeheartedly congratulated Engr. Seyi Makinde on his re-election as Governor of Oyo State.

Segelu, in a congratulatory message to the governor, urged him to leave no stone unturned to justify the trust and confidence reposed in him by the people which informed his election for a second term.

The Ibadan-born young politician said: “Your Excellency, congratulations on your triumphant outing in the just concluded Oyo State governorship polls. I congratulate you for winning the election, despite all the gang-up and challenges. Like David in the Bible, you are indeed a strong man. I know how you showed bravery and courage in making your first move to enter the Agodi Government House. It has been a grueling journey over the past few months for you, but you have emerged as the last man standing. You went, and you came back with your honour intact. Accept my congratulations, Sir!

“Your Excellency, you have made history as the second governor to win a second term in office in Oyo State. It is a remarkable feat, and it is one worthy of congratulations. It is said that the people of Oyo never allow an individual to serve them twice. Ajimobi broke the first jinx. You have against all odds sustained it. I doff my hat for you. Kudos to you.”

Continuing, he stated: “Your Excellency, I am a great fan of yours who has followed you for many years. In 2019, I donated a bus for your campaign and undoubtedly have strong faith in you. Also in 2023, I branded 2 cars for your campaign. It is obvious that you have tried to govern well. Given that the good people of Oyo state have handed over the resources of the state to you for another four years with their votes. I hope you will not let them down. I hope my faith in you won’t be crushed as well, Sir.

“Now that you have been reelected. You have been given an opportunity that no one else, including the late Chief Abiola Ajimobi has ever been given, because his reelection was not as fair as this. You now have another four years to pass with flying colours. You are luckier than everyone else. As you can see for yourself, one of the occupant of the Agodi Government House before you, struggled hard to stop your return for a second term even though he did nothing during his own four years as Governor. It is up to you to decide if you want to carve your name in stone or if you want to go down in infamy like some of the ones before you.

“In case you have forgotten the price of failure, ask Chief Rasheed Ladoja or even Adebayo Adelabu the Penkelemesi or Sen. Teslim Folarin, they will tell you that the people of Oyo State have long memories and they do not forgive easily. With your win, you have even more people sceptical about what you can achieve in your second term. It is not their fault. We all know how second term works in Nigeria. I hope you prove them wrong so that when you are leaving in 2027, your good work will speak for the next candidate that our party presents for the governorship. This is not a time to become arrogant and authoritarian. There are still plenty of things you have to do to be mentioned in the same sentence as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but I believe in you. So don’t make us the people of Oyo state regret putting our trust in you, Sir.”
