An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ibadan North East State Constituency II seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olaide Sarafadeen Olalere, popularly known as ERE, has resigned from the party and officially joined the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).

Olalere, the Mogaji of Sangotegbe Compound, Oje, Ibadan, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 12, Ibadan North East Local Government, stating that the decision takes immediate effect.

In the resignation letter, ERE said his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, political associates, supporters and loyalists, adding that he had resolved to pursue his political aspirations on the platform of another political party.

“This decision comes after careful consultation with my family, political associates, supporters and loyalists. I have resolved to pursue my political aspirations on the platform of another political party, a decision I believe is in the best interest of my political journey and the people I seek to serve,” he stated.

Despite his exit, the former APC aspirant expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the party at the ward, local government, state and national levels for the opportunity to serve.

He noted that the relationships, experiences and lessons acquired during his time in the APC would remain invaluable, while reaffirming his commitment to democratic ideals, peaceful political participation and the development of Ibadan North East Local Government, Oyo State and Nigeria.

Olalere also requested that his name be removed from the APC membership register with immediate effect.

Following his resignation, ERE formally joined the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), bringing an end to his association with the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.

The politician was among the APC aspirants who purchased the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the Ibadan North East Constituency II House of Assembly ticket. However, he was reportedly dissatisfied with the party’s candidate selection process after alleging that another aspirant was imposed as the party’s flagbearer.

His defection adds to the growing list of aggrieved APC members who have left the party in Oyo State in recent weeks, amid persistent complaints over the conduct of the party’s primary election and candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 polls.
