Market Men and Women at Gege Olopa market in the Southwest local government area of Ibadan, Oyo South senatorial district have showered praises on senator-elect, Bar. Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, over his effort to cushion the effect of long-suffering water supply in the ancient market.
The senator-elect was lauded after the completion of a total rehabilitation of the neglected Borehole at the market.
The traders while eulogizing the senator-elect said, one of the major challenges they have been facing at the market is water supply, and all promises made by previously elected senators, federal and state honorables who have been representing the area were not forthcoming, explained that a promise made by Sharafa Alli came earlier than expected.
According to one of the Market women, Mrs. Adijat Yemisi, she explained that the rehabilitation Borehole was donated to the Gege Market and environs during the administration of Governor Rashidi Ladoja, but has been neglected for many years when it stopped functioning while efforts made by calling the attention of elected officials representing the area has not been successful. ” they kept promising us, but none of them fulfilled the promise made, until now that Sharafa Ali, did the unthinkable within the shortest time of his promise.
Alhaji Tajudeen Asamu Ajibola, Vice Chairman of the Butchers Association, Gege branch who was also in attendance expressed appreciation to Sharafadeen Alli for the humanitarian gesture and promise that the traders and the residents around Gege Market will put the renovated facility into good use and take adequate care of it. ” We thank Sharadeen Alli for coming to our rescue, we will entrust the management of the renovated borehole to the hand of some committee for proper maintenance”, Alhaji Tajudeen started.
Also speaking, Mrs Shakirat Aderinto, thanked the Senator-elect for the Borehole rehabilitation, she said, it has been a long time since the traders of Gege market have been suffering from the water supply, adding that the facilities will go a long way in helping them to be more hygienic in the market.
Ali’s representative, Comr. Segun Elegbede while speaking on behalf of the senator-elect said the renovated Borehole is done to provide the needed succor for market men and women as well as residents of the communities.
Elegbede said that water is germane to their business and usage adding that what Sharafa Alli has done will go a long way to ensure that traders and residents of Gege Olopa have access to clean potable water
He thereafter enjoined the traders in the market and residents to make good use of the facilities, noting that Sharafa Alli will not relent in his efforts to bring succor to the people of the area and Oyo South.
