Proposed N266.6bn 2021 Budget, Oyo Assembly Charges Makinde on Better Performance
Oyo State House of Assembly has charged Governor Seyi Makinde on better performance of the newly presented N266.6bn budget for the 2021 fiscal year.
The Speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin made this charge in his comment at the presentation of the proposed 2021 appropriation budget tagged- “Continued Consolidation Budget”.
While commending the Governor Makinde’s led administration action plans on rebuilding the State and putting it on the pedestal of socio-economic growth and development.
Ogundoyin noted that the evaluation of 2020 budget performance at 50.32 percent despite the economic shock induced by the pandemic is still commendable, adding that the State government should however be more determined to achieve above 70percent performance for the 2021.
He said, “It is commendable that in the recent history of governance in Oyo State, the present administration ably led by our diligent and highly energetic Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has ensured that Appropriation and Finance Bills are presented before the house on time.
“This is particularly praiseworthy as it enhances the proper and meticulous monitoring and evaluation of Budget performance and prevents wasteful spending and improper execution of government programs and projects.
“As a house we are always ready to perform our constitutional duty of law making in particular and to also ensure that the Executive arm of government encounters no legal impediment in the performance of its functions for the overall welfare and wellbeing of the State and its residents.
“We hereby pledge our renewed commitment to thoroughly scrutinize the bill and give it accelerated passage. We will always ensure and promote budget performance through our constitutional oversight functions”.
