The Oyo State National Association of Nigerian Student on Tuesday 28th May has publicly debunked the ongoing rumour that, the student’s body is ready to ushered in Engr. Oluwaseyi Makinde administration with protest.

In a press release made available with Westerndailynews, signed by Comrade Asubiojo Olujuwon (Marshal) the Oyo NANS chairman, the student’s body implored the general public to disregard the ongoing rumour that the body had planned to disrupt tomorrow Engr. Seyi Makinde swearing – in inauguration with protest. Comr. Marshal described the rumour as illogical, thereafter promise the incoming government the needed support in education sector.

Part of the statement reads :

The attention of the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students has been drawn to the rumor making round like a wave that the association plans to have a protest tomorrow, 29th of May, 2019. We find this rumor unfounded and consider it an attempt by some unscrupulous individuals to cause rancour between the Incoming Government of Engr. Seyi Makinde and the entire Nigerian Students, which we serve as an umbrella-body.

It is illogical to organize a protest on a day when the entire state will be welcoming a New Administration. In this way, NANS, Oyo Chapter, is confident that there will be an increase in funding of our institutions. And this association also believes that the Incoming Administration will make student friendly policies as being said by the Governor-Elect as his campaign promises, therefore, there is no need for a protest at this point.

Succinctly, it is important to state that this association will not hide in darkness to organise a protest as we fear no intimidation. Nonetheless, we believe in wide consultation before other methods of conflict resolution would come up. In fact, this has been our approach to issues since this leadership, NANS, Oyo Chapter started.

This administration would boldly make it known to the public if it is our intention to hold a protest; and that is if we consider such necessary at any point of our administration.

We urge the public to take note of this.

The swearing – in ceremony of Engr Seyi Makinde government is scheduled to hold tomorrow at Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan.
