The Director-General of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) and Executive Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde FNSE Dsc GSSRS on Agribusiness and International Cooperation, Dr. Debo Akande DBA CMGR FCMI, has described the transformation of the former OYSADEP Agricultural Equipment Fabrication and Training Centre, Apata, as a shining example of the impact of strategic private sector participation in Agricultural development.
According to Dr. Akande, the once moribund facility was successfully revitalized through a partnership with Niji Group and has evolved into a modern agro-industrial hub that is driving economic growth, job creation, Agricultural mechanization and value addition in Oyo State.
He noted that the Niji Group Equipment Fabrication Centre now produces locally fabricated Agricultural machinery, provides equipment maintenance and servicing, offers tractor leasing services, and processes Agricultural produce, thereby strengthening the state’s Agribusiness ecosystem.
Dr. Akande further stated that the facility has created over 300 jobs for residents while processing more than 6,000 tonnes of cassava annually, making it one of the notable success stories of OYSADA’s commitment to attracting and supporting private-sector-led investments in Agriculture.
“The transformation of the Apata facility demonstrates what can be achieved when government creates an enabling environment for investors. It is a practical example of how Agribusiness can stimulate industrial development, create employment opportunities, improve farmers’ productivity and contribute significantly to economic growth,” he said.
The OYSADA Director-General emphasized that the success of the project aligns with the vision of Governor Seyi Makinde to position Oyo State as a leading Agribusiness destination in Nigeria through innovation, investment and sustainable partnerships.
Dr. Akande reaffirmed OYSADA’s commitment to attracting more investors into the Agricultural sector and expanding opportunities for value addition, rural development and food security across the state.
