LAUTECH: Workers To Resume In Iseyin Campus On Monday, Academic Activities To Commence In September
The members of staff of the newly created College of Agricultural Science and Renewable Resources, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Iseyin Campus, will resume on Monday.
Their resumption is sequel to the directive of Gov. Seyi Makinde that academic activities should commence at the campus in September.
It is contained in a statement signed by Dr Bunmi Babalola, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the college located in Iseyin Town, was recently created by the Oyo State Government as part of the efforts to make the institution a multi-campus.
NAN reports that the college is expected to take off in the premises of the former Teachers’ Training College, Okeho Road, Iseyin, where its administrative, faculty and building and lecture halls are located.
The statement said that Prof. Gbemiga Adewale, Provost of the College, made the announcement after inspecting the facilities provided by Iseyin Community for the take-off of the institution.
Adewale said workers of the institution would resume in Iseyin on Monday, adding that academic activities would commence by September.
He said that the inspection tour was in accordance with the directive of the governor that academic activities on the campus must commence in September.
The provost said the governor had also directed the management to evaluate the readiness of the community to host the institution.
Adewale said that the college would commence with two Faculties, namely Faculty of Agricultural Science and the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources.
“No doubt, the establishment of LAUTECH College in Iseyin is a dream come through.
“I reliably gathered that Iseyin community had been demanding for establishment of an higher institution over 70 years back.
“Thanks be to God and Gov. Seyi Makinde for the actualisation of the dream of this community, with establishment of the College,” he said.
Adewale said that a research and development unit would soon be established to facilitate accelerated research development in the institution.
“The academic staff shall be encouraged to take advantage of the institution-based research funds at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
“There shall be an establishment of a state-of-the-art Training and Research Farm with facilities for students and staff research projects.
“There shall be students and staff experimental pens for livestock, poultry, fisheries, forestry, ecotourism, and wildlife,” he said.
Adewale said that college’s research programmes would focus on the development of technological innovations in Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources that are cost-effective.
Also, Alhaji Bayo Raji, the Chairman, Iseyin Development Union (I.D.U), prayed for the success of the present administration under Gov. Seyi Makinde in all endeavours.
Raji stressed the need for unity among indigenes to work toward smooth commencement and sustaining the development needed in the college.
Sen. Gbenga Babalola, a former lawmaker, who represented Oyo North Senatorial District, took the management team to his fish farm along Iseyin-Oyo Road.
The lawmaker pledged his readiness to relinquish the facility to the College, saying that such would enhance development of Iseyin Community.
NAN reports that the fish farm has five functioning boreholes, feed mill, lecture room, incubation unit and a standby generator set.
Commenting, Alhaji Ahmed Raji, a foremost indigene of Iseyin, donated staff quarters of about seven chalets and boys quarters to accommodate some of the management staff of the College.
Raji, represented by a former Iseyin Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Saheed Alaran, said the occasion called for true symbiotic relationship.
He said that the community has much to contribute for the successful take-off of the institution.
Raji called on other wellmeaning indigenes of Iseyin to rally round and support the college, saying it is a flagship of better things to come.
NAN reports that teaching, research and commercial farm shall be located at the site along Iseyin – Ogbomoso Road, Iseyin.
