Just in: Gov. Makinde’s Aide Resigns to Pursue Oyo Governorship Bid

The Special Adviser on Labour Matters to Oyo State Governor, Comrade Sikiru Bayo Titilola-Sodo, has resigned his appointment to pursue his ambition of becoming the state’s next governor in the 2027 general election under the platform of the Action Alliance (AA).
Titilola-Sodo’s resignation was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media and Publicity Team, which said the decision followed his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in Oyo State.

According to the statement, the party’s leadership unanimously adopted Titilola-Sodo as its flag bearer after extensive consultations and an assessment of the credentials, leadership qualities, political experience, and track records of aspirants seeking the party’s ticket.
The statement noted that his resignation was informed by his commitment to the principles of integrity, transparency, accountability, and democratic participation, while enabling him to devote his full attention to consultations and campaigns across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Titilola-Sodo expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for the opportunity to serve in his administration, describing his appointment as a privilege.
“I am grateful to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for giving me the opportunity to serve as Special Adviser on Labour Matters. It has been an honour to contribute my quota to the progress of our dear state and to work with an administration that has made significant strides in governance and infrastructural development,” he said.

The former labour leader maintained that his years of service in both the public service and organised labour have prepared him for the task of leading Oyo State.
His career includes serving as a Principal Officer in the Oyo State Local Government Service, President of the Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo State, Permanent Secretary, and Special Adviser on Labour Matters.
He said the experiences have equipped him with the administrative competence, leadership capacity, and people-oriented approach required to deliver sustainable development and inclusive governance.
Titilola-Sodo also expressed confidence in Oyo State’s potential to compete with leading states in the country in infrastructure, industrialisation, agriculture, education, healthcare, and job creation.
He pledged that, if elected governor in 2027, his administration would ensure equitable distribution of development projects across all geopolitical zones of the state while prioritising security, workers’ welfare, agriculture, youth empowerment, women’s inclusion, rural development, economic growth, and improved social services.
The Action Alliance governorship candidate further appealed to residents, stakeholders, and supporters across the state to join him in his vision of building a more prosperous, united, and inclusive Oyo State.
