The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West Federal Constituency, Hon. Rotimi Ajanaku, has said he is not a desperate politician who would resort to unethical means in pursuit of political office.
ZLP candidate Rotimi Ajanaku made the remarks on Friday during an interview with Nigerian Tribune correspondent, Segun Adebayo.
According to him, “Falsehood, blackmail and character assassination are the hallmarks of desperate politicians, and Rotimi Ajanaku is not one of them.”
He stressed that he remains committed to democratic principles and believes that political power should be determined by the will of the people.
“As a democrat and grassroots mobiliser, I strongly believe in the power of the ballot. If you truly want to serve the people, you should not force yourself on them; allow them to decide through their votes,” he said.
Expressing confidence ahead of the election, Ajanaku said he was optimistic of victory, maintaining that voters would judge candidates based on their credibility and track record.
“As long as the forthcoming election is about personality and credibility, I am confident the people will vote for me based on my antecedents and political pedigree,” he stated.
The ZLP candidate further alleged that recent attacks directed at his political camp by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had inadvertently increased his popularity and strengthened his political structure.
Ajanaku also alleged that, since declaring for the ZLP, the APC-led Oyo State Government had employed various tactics to frustrate his campaign. He claimed that one of his campaign vehicles was impounded by the police and that his campaign billboards erected in strategic locations, including Adamasingba and Iyaganku, were removed on the orders of the state government.
The APC-led Oyo State Government and other authorities mentioned in these allegations had not responded to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
