Confraternity Group To Begin Police Transformation Outreach In Oyo
As part of civic responsibility, the leadership of the National Association of Jolly Rogers Confraternity, a fall-out of Seadog Confraternity, Oyo State Chapter announced its readiness to embark on Police transformation outreach.
The Confraternity which has 62 chapters across the world in conjunction with the Police Community in Houston, United States of America stated this on Tuesday at Baale Oluyole, Yemi Ogunyemi’s Palace, believes the Police Institution can be rebranded to an international status quo through its action.
Speaking, a popular real Estate surveyor and captain, Jolly Rogers Confraternity, Oyo State, Mr Olusegun Adesope stated that the association works on intellectualism as the founding fathers of Seadogs Pirates Confraternity including the globally revered Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, Baba Akinwumi Isola who struggled for African engagement during the pre and post-colonial era with much impacts felt in the country since 1952 till date, with the basic objective of paving way for a resounding egalitarian society.
Adesope added that Jolly Rogers Confraternity is ready to engage the society’s positive impacts at all costs through formal influence and affiliations possessed.
“We are grateful to the entire Oluyole, especially Baale who intuitively gave us a hint of Seadog Confraternity historically then. We promise to do you proud and never renege on our promises in the past. Late Bola Ige, Prof. Awe was close to Seadogs but was not initiated. But, Prof. Akinwumi Isola was a core member. Muyiwa Ige was initiated through the mentorship of Prof. Wole Soyinka”
“As a head of the organization, we promise to give a continual relationship with the Oluyole community, and as well the Palace, even if anybody comes after me”, Adesope said.
Similarly, Association’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogundele noted that the Association decided to embark on a 4-day advocacy towards investigating and oiling the needs of state Police-citizens relationship which will premise on town hall meeting with Police, investigation on Police and community, jingles in 5mins and 10mins and collaboration seeking with communities especially, the Oluyole.
” in 1983 at Ugheli, we lost 6 members to Police Brutality which we still believe plays out to date.
” We are looking at Police community relationship for reformation about good police staff welfare and enabling environment for a national Police Force pride”
In reaction, the Chairman Police Community Relation Committee and vice-chairman of Operations, PCRC, Oyo State Command, Prince Shuaib Aminu lamented on poor maintenance culture in the Police Force, adding that several Police members got into the Force due to economic circumstances.
Shuaib advised the members of Jolly Rogers to be cautiously tactical in their proposed projects to enable success.
The chairman, of Oluyole Community Development, Chief Jerry Akinwumi congratulated Jolly Rogers Deck, Oyo State for a proposed project on a critical sector, Police which indeed calls for transformation. He encouraged the Association to remain resilient, focused, and determined, giving unalloyed support to the entire Oluyole Community.
Meanwhile, the Baale Oluyole, Chief Yemi Ogunyemi appreciated the members of Jolly Rogers for being carriers of freedom fighting instincts of the founder of Pirate Confraternity, Wole Soyinka, fingered military interference that collapsed the social effectiveness of the association. He said the then confraternity operated in the afternoon and was never secret.
Baba Ogunyemi called the Rogers Confraternity to uphold its good intention and make every effort to outshine Lion and Rotary Clubs both of which were birthed by Europeans; promised formal support, appointing the Community PCRC Chairman, Secretary, and PCRC PRO, Mr. UTB Umoren to paneling with the Rogers Confraternity for successful policy advocacy.
The meeting ended with refreshments and photograph sessions with members of Jolly Rogers Confraternity and Leadership of the Oluyole Community.
