THE Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress, on Monday, announced the commencement of the party’s membership registration and revalidation exercise.
The exercise, which is expected to commence on December 12, 2020, and end on January 9, 2021, will take place simultaneously in all the wards across the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory.
Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, said the party arrived at the date for the crucial exercise after wide consultations with APC stakeholders, including President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, registration materials will get to all the wards before the commencement of the exercise.
While urging members to revalidate their membership status, he also encouraged prospective members to take advantage of the process to join the APC.
With the date set for the revalidation and registration exercise, it is almost certain that the National Convention of the APC will no longer hold this year as indicated at the last emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the party, which dissolved the Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee and constituted the Buni-led Caretaker Committee.
There had been internal wrangling in the party, following the protest by some stakeholders that the Caretaker Committee was only mandated to reconcile aggrieved members and conduct the National Convention where new NWC members would be elected. They had argued that the Buni-led Committee was not given the mandate to oversee the registration and revalidation exercise.
Buni’s statement, however, said, “The APC National Caretaker Extraordinary/Convention Planning Committee has concluded arrangement for the commencement of membership registration and revalidation. Having consulted stakeholders, including His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC membership registration and revalidation is scheduled to hold from Saturday, December 12, 2020 to Saturday, January 9, 2021.
“All our members are hereby invited to revalidate their membership in their wards. Similarly, prospective members are also invited to take advantage of the membership registration process to join our party.
“The membership registration and revalidation will take place simultaneously in every Ward in the country. The process of distributing the membership registration and revalidation materials to all the States, Local Governments and Wards will be concluded before December 12, 2020.”
