Former Oyo State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Abdulrahman Raphael Afonja, has extended his felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and across the globe on the dawn of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448 AH.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Afonja highlighted the significance of the new Islamic calendar as a time to reflect on the profound lessons drawn from Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) Hijrah. He emphasized that this historical event serves as a powerful testament to faith, sacrifice, perseverance, patience, and unwavering devotion to Allah.
He encouraged Muslims to embody righteousness, honesty, compassion, and unity, asserting that these virtues are indispensable for both individual advancement and the overall progress of the nation.
The former commissioner also implored all Nigerians to earnestly intensify their prayers for the country, particularly in light of the ongoing security challenges that continue to impact numerous communities.
“We need divine intervention, alongside our collective efforts, to bring about lasting peace and stability in Nigeria,” he stated.
Afonja urged adherents of all faiths to actively foster peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and understanding. He underscored the fact that national progress is achievable only within an environment characterized by peace and collaboration between Muslims and non-Muslims.
He inspired Muslims to leverage the new year to deepen their connection with Allah, extend support to those in need, and contribute positively to community development.
He concluded with a prayer for Allah to bestow peace, security, prosperity, and unity upon Nigeria, and to bless the Muslim Ummah with good health, spiritual enrichment, and abundant rewards throughout the coming year.
