THE governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Engr. Popoola Olukayode Josuha ( POJ ) and a chieftain of the party Alhaji Adebisi Abdul Rasheed Olopoeyan on Saturday morning visited Oyo town to felicitate with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the Iku Baba Yeye as he clocks 51 years on the throne.
Oba Adeyemi was coronated on 14th January 1971 at the age of 31 succeeding the late Alaafin Ladigbolu.
Egnr. Popoola said he is proud to celebrate the monarch who he described as a great pride to Yoruba at home and abroad, having brought peculiar gravitas and character to the throne.
“ Our father in 51 years has brought peculiar gravitas and character to the throne and he is a great pride to Yoruba at home and abroad.
“ We proudly celebrate him at 51 years on throne and pray that God will keep him for many more years in dedicated service that we will be proud of always.
In his own words, the Oyo PDP chieftain, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan said Alaafin is widely considered as a royal father and who occupied a special place of honour in Oyo State, Yorubaland and in Nigeria, so it is important to celebrate the monarch on such occasion.
Alaafin, is not for Oyo town alone, he belongs to Yoruba tribe, he is a custodian of our tradition and an epitome of royalty, we came here today to greet him on the occasion of his 51 years on throne, our wish for Kabiyesi is to spend more numerous years on throne with good health”, Olopoeyan concluded.
At the palace, Oba Adeyemi said he is delighted to welcome Popoola and Olopoeyan as an August visitor. After receiving them at the his private office inside palace, Alaafin pray to God to be with them and and guide them aright. “ Thanks so much for coming here for the purpose of my celebration, when God will choose, He won’t forget you. I have to wish you success, God’s guidance and traveling mercies”. Alaafin said.
