2023: Akinyele Youths Drill State Assembly Candidates

About 50 days to the 2023 general elections, Akinyele Youth Forum ( AYF ) in conjunction with Youth For New Nigeria (YNN ) in Oyo state on Friday held the first-ever youth town hall and election debate for state assembly candidates from Akinyele Local Government.

The political debate which was held at Award Hall, Akinyele Local Government secretariat, Moniya in Ibadan on Friday, has in attendance a few of the Oyo state house assembly candidates.

Present at the political debate was, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Akinyele constituency 2, Hon. Olatunde Kehinde, All Progressives Congress (APC)/candidate for Akinyele constituency 1, Ambassador Adekunle Abdul-Wasiu Abdul-Kareem, Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidates for Akinyele state constituency 1 and 2, Hom Afeez Olaonipekun and John Okunlola Samuel.

Addressing Journalists after the debate, the president of Akinyele Youth Forum,
Comrade Olagoke Paul explained that the purpose of the debate was to enable Akinyele youths, residents, and voters to further understand what each of the candidates has in stock as plans for them.

He further said the process would enable them to choose the right candidate that will impact their lives and that of the local government, meaningfully if given the mandate through the next general elections.

In his speech, Alhaji Abiola Ogungbade, the state coordinator for Youth for New Nigeria also said they partnered with AYF for such debate because it is a good program because,
as all candidates are expected to let the people know what they intend to do when elected as lawmakers and the bills they intend to sponsor including the projects they intend to execute.

While the aspiring lawmakers spoke on how they will provide jobs for youths in their constituency and support the bill for local government autonomy, the serving state assembly lawmaker for Akinyele constituency 2, Hon. Olatunde Kehinde explained to the people some of the reasons why the present government is finding it difficult to meet up with the citizen’s demands.

Hon. Olatunde said, despite not receiving up to 20 million Maria’sas constituency allowance since his three and half years in office, he has surpassed his predecessor, who was collecting 40 million every three months as constituency allowance during the 7th and 8th assemblies. He said he has done many projects for the benefit of his constituents including the ongoing grading of roads.

At the debate, Hon. Afeez Olaonipekun SDP candidate for constituency 1 implored all youth seeking banking jobs to contact him, as he is ready to get interested youth a high-paying job in one of the new generation Banks

Amb. Adekunle Abdul-Kareem of APC from constituency 2, also urged Akinyele youth to visit his campaign office to pick a Scholarship form as he had made provisions for 300 applicants

Akinyele Youth Forum (AYF) is said to be the apex body of all community youth groups in Akinyele Local government. Its main function is to promote oneness, unity, and progress within all the Youth groups which include; Idi-Ose Youth Association, Ajibode Youth group, Ijaye Youth group, Elekuru Youth Forum, Sagbe Boys and others

While, Youth for New Nigeria (YNN) is a platform that seeks to engage, empower and enhance every Nigerian youth for individual and collective greatness and national prosperity.
