The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator (Dr) Sharafadeen Alli, has pledged support for the families of the victims killed during the tragic abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, promising that they would not be abandoned in their moment of grief.
Alli, who had visited the hospital where the rescued pupils and teachers were receiving treatment on Sunday in Ibadan, pledged to support families of the slained teachers.
According to the rescued Principal, Mrs Rachael Alamu, Mr. Michael Oyedokun was killed on the second day of their captivity, while Deacon John Olaleye was killed on the first Sunday of June.
He said the gruesome killing of innocent teachers during the abduction was a painful reminder of the devastating impact of insecurity on families and communities, stressing that every life lost deserved honour and justice.
The APC governorship candidate prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives during the incident and wished the rescued victims speedy physical and psychological recovery.
Senator Alli assured the bereaved families that he would support them within his capacity to ease their burden and ensure that the sacrifices of their loved ones were not forgotten.
“I cannot imagine the pain these families are passing through. No amount of consolation can replace their loved ones, but I want them to know that they are not alone. I will support and identify with them in every possible way,” Alli said.
According to him, beyond celebrating the successful rescue of the victims, governments, public-spirited individuals and organisations must work together to help the survivors rebuild their lives.
The governorship candidate, who sympathised with them over their traumatic 56-day ordeal, had presented a Toyota Camry to the rescued principal who lost his car to the incident.
He urged security agencies to sustain the momentum by ensuring stronger security measures around schools and rural communities to prevent recurrence.
