Oyo APC Kicks Against Gov. Makinde’s ₦300bn Loan, Stages Protest in Ibadan
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo State Chapter, on Monday, September 8, 2025, staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan against the ₦300 billion loan allegedly approved for Governor Seyi Makinde by the State House of Assembly.

The demonstration, which commenced at the APC Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, was led by the party’s State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abass. Addressing journalists during the protest, Abass declared the APC’s outright rejection of the loan, describing it as unnecessary and detrimental to the state’s financial future.
The protest followed an alarm raised by Hon. Ibraheem Shittu, the APC lawmaker representing Saki West Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly. Shittu had publicly distanced himself from the loan approval, alleging that the House, currently on a six-week recess, held an “emergency sitting” on August 26, 2025, without properly notifying all members.
In a statement released via his official social media account, Shittu insisted:
> “I want it to be on record that I, Hon. Shittu Ibraheem, representing Saki West State Constituency, am not among the lawmakers who approved a loan of ₦300 billion on August 19, 2025, and perfected on August 26, 2025. The House has been on recess since July 31 and is to resume on September 16, yet an emergency plenary was arranged without adequate communication to all members. Why should such a huge loan be considered an emergency, especially now that Oyo State receives about 50% increase in FAAC allocation?”

Supporting Shittu’s position, APC protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as *“Save Oyo State from Shackles of Indebtedness”* and *“₦300 Billion Loan Nah Scam.”*
Alhaji Abass said the protest was not only a show of solidarity with Hon. Shittu but also a call to Governor Makinde to act with transparency and prudence in managing the state’s resources.
