The Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Oyo State chapter, has declared its full endorsement and unwavering support for all aspirants contesting under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming elections, spanning governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly races.
In a press statement issued by the association, Oyo ALGON emphasized its collective commitment to the success of PDP candidates at all levels, noting that the strength of the party lies in unity, inclusiveness, and recognition of credible leadership drawn from the grassroots.
The statement particularly highlighted the growing number of serving and former council chairmen within the association who have indicated interest in various elective positions. According to the association, these individuals possess proven administrative capacity, deep grassroots connection, and a track record of impactful governance at the local level.
The association further revealed that among its members are notable governorship aspirants, as well as contenders for senatorial and federal constituencies, all of whom have demonstrated strong antecedents in public service and party loyalty.
ALGON, therefore, called on the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, alongside leaders of the PDP, to ensure a fair and merit-based selection process that gives due consideration to aspirants emerging from the local government structure.
The statement stressed that rewarding competence, loyalty, and experience—particularly from those who have served at the grassroots level—would not only strengthen the party’s internal democracy but also enhance its chances of electoral victory.
Reaffirming its stance, the association pledged continued support for the PDP and its candidates, expressing confidence that a united front and strategic inclusiveness would secure resounding success. It also eulogised Governor Seyi Makinde as the party’s leader in the state, affirming full acceptance of his leadership and praying for greater strength and wisdom in steering its affairs.
