The Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed Hon. Abeeb Idowu Balogun, popularly known as AIB, as its candidate for Ibadan South-West State Constituency II in the 2027 general elections, dismissing an online publication questioning his candidacy.

The party, in a statement issued on Saturday, October 10, 2026, said Balogun remained its duly recognised candidate, insisting that he was qualified to contest the election under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the ADC constitution.

The clarification followed an online report alleging that Balogun was not the party’s candidate for the constituency.

Rejecting the allegation, the Oyo ADC described the publication as misleading and expressed concern that the claims were attributed to individuals whose identities were not disclosed.

The party questioned the motives behind the publication, suggesting that unnamed political interests opposed to the ADC’s growing influence might be seeking to create confusion within its ranks.

It maintained that no genuine party member committed to the success of the ADC would deliberately circulate information capable of undermining its electoral prospects.

The party also challenged those responsible for the publication to substantiate their claims with credible documentary evidence rather than rely on anonymous allegations.

Beyond the controversy surrounding Balogun’s candidacy, the ADC urged online publishers and media practitioners to uphold the principles of responsible journalism, particularly when reporting issues relating to electoral nominations and candidates’ eligibility.

According to the party, allegations concerning candidacy should be supported by identifiable and verifiable sources rather than presented as established facts without sufficient evidence.

Reiterating its position, the Oyo ADC said it remained united and focused on providing credible representation for the people of Ibadan South-West II and residents of the state.

It added that misinformation and political distractions would not alter its recognition of Balogun as its candidate for the constituency in the 2027 elections.
