Olapet Foundation Distributes Sanitary Pads To School Girls In Ibadan

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Olapet Foundation, on Wednesday, distributed sanitary pads to over 200 school girls in Ibadan.

The foundation believes every girl child deserves to have access to sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene products irrespective of their background.

Westerndailynews.com reports that the sanitary pads were distributed to female students in Alegongo Secondary School, Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo state.

According to Miss Diekolola, who spoke on behalf of Olapet Foundation’s CEO, Dr. Olanike Rosemary Esan, said the foundation aims to continuously educate young school girls about menstrual health as well as fulfill the mandate to encourage every girl since they have the right to be safe, educated, and healthy.

 

She further stated that Dr. Esans aim is to make the #PadAGirlChild initiative a continuous project that will make available sanitary pads to every girl child from an underprivileged background and also along the line tackling the issue of menstrual hygiene among our young girls.

“We are here to educate our girls on the need to monitor their Menstrual cycle,  as well as educate them on hygiene.

While sensitizing the school girls on the importance and use of Sanitary Pad, Mr. David Kadan, a Public Health Officer from University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan said the choice of reusable pads “lies not just in its ability to ensure safe menstrual hygiene practice, but also in its environmentally friendly nature, significantly reducing waste associated with single-use pads, which harm the environment.

Mr. David Kadan also sensitizes the girls on the importance of privacy when starting menstruation and the prevention of environmental hazards associated with the indiscriminate disposal of used sanitary pads.

In her remark, Mrs Madike who spoke on behalf of the school management acknowledged the effort of Olapet Foundation towards providing a conducive life for young girls through menstrual hygiene education and the provision of Sanitary Pads.

” We thank Olapet Foundation for choosing our school for the educative program and for the sanitary Pad distributed, it will go a long way in helping them to maintain their hygiene and protect their body from sexual abuse.

Speaking on behalf of the students, one of the beneficiaries appreciated Olapet Foundation for the initiatives saying, all the students were able to learn mental health management through the sensitization campaign of the Foundation.
