State Coordinator, NYSC, Oyo State, Mr Odoba Abel Oche has appealed to the state government for infrastructural development of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp to enhance the effective training of corps members posted to the state.

He made the appeal while delivering his introductory address at the swearing-in ceremony of 2023 Batch A, Stream 2 Corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin

Mr Oche, who explained that a rain storm wreaked havoc on the facilities of the camp a few weeks before the start of the orientation exercise, appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to construct an auditorium for the corps members so that their training would go unhindered during the rainy season.

“I want to strongly appeal to the state government to help us construct an auditorium where corps members can be receiving lectures. Presently we make use of the pavilion which is not ideal for such a programme. Moreover, the roofs of our pavilion were removed by the windstorm a few weeks ago which after we just managed to patch one side. This makes it difficult for us to hold any programme when rain falls. We equally request assistance in the area of hostel accommodation. The existing ones are inadequate for the population of corps members always deployed to the state.”

Declaring the orientation course opened, the Oyo State Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Seun Fakorede, reiterated the government’s support for the scheme and urged the corps members to participate fully in the training to equip them for the task ahead.

“It is heartwarming that the National Youth Service Corps has succeeded in its quest to mitigate the high rate of unemployment bedevilling the country through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (SAED). I enjoin you to embrace the programme and equip yourself at no cost with skills that will make you stand the test of time.”

To this end, I want to encourage you to be open-minded and assimilate all the training you will be receiving in this camp to make your stay in Oyo State a very productive and memorable one as you discharge your
assignment with all seriousness.”

Governor Makinde enjoined the corps members to see themselves as potentially needed to solve challenges in key sectors of the economy
