A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State and governorship aspirant, Ambassador Abdulsabur Abiola Olawore, has declared that any attempt to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde would be futile, citing the governor’s widespread popularity and the unwavering support he enjoys from the people.
Olawore, who has expressed interest in succeeding Makinde in the 2027 governorship election, stated that the governor continues to command the trust and loyalty of residents across the state, making any plot to truncate his administration unrealistic.
He described as “unfortunate” what he termed the imagination of certain individuals or groups who believe that Makinde’s administration could be prematurely brought to an end before the constitutionally stipulated expiration date of May 29, 2027.
According to him, the Makinde-led government has delivered good governance, which has earned it the backing of the people, regardless of religious, ethnic, or socio-economic differences.
Olawore further emphasised that the governor would complete his tenure and eventually hand over power to a capable successor, stressing the need for continuity in governance beyond 2027.
He also cautioned those allegedly behind the impeachment rumours to desist, noting that any such move, if indeed being contemplated, would amount to a waste of effort.
“The people of Oyo State are solidly behind the governor and will continue to support him, irrespective of any propaganda,” Olawore added.
