Just In: Court Halts PDP National Convention Pending Hearing of Sule Lamido’s Suit

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the postponement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention earlier scheduled to hold on November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, pending the determination of a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido.
In a ruling delivered by Justice Omotosho J. on Monday, the court directed that the convention be suspended until the substantive matter before it is heard and determined.
The judge also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to refrain from participating in or supervising any activities connected to the planned convention, either in Ibadan or in any part of Nigeria, until further notice.
Justice Omotosho’s decision followed a motion filed by Sule Lamido, challenging certain internal processes within the PDP leading to the planned national convention. The court held that maintaining the status quo was necessary to prevent a possible breach of party rules and to ensure a fair hearing in the matter.
Lamido, who appeared in court alongside several notable political associates including Senator Mustapha Khabeeb (Zannan Dutse), Alhaji Umaru Mai Shadai, Dr. Babandi Ibrahim, Hon. Nasiru Umar Roni, Hon. Nasir Mohammed Sparrow, Hon. Umar Danjani Hadejia, and Hon. Kabiru Nura Kazaure expressed confidence in the judicial process.

The case, which has generated keen interest within the PDP and among political observers nationwide, is expected to determine the legality of the party’s preparations for its national leadership election.
Further hearing on the matter has been adjourned to a date to be communicated by the court.
