The Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has applauded Governor Seyi Makinde for presenting the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Oyo State House of Assembly, describing the financial plan as a “defining turning point” for the state’s development, security, and long-term prosperity.
Governor Makinde on Monday laid before lawmakers the 2026 Budget of Economic Expansion, estimated at ₦891,985,074,480.79, which the forum said builds on the gains of the 2025 Budget of Economic Stabilisation and sets a stronger foundation for sustainable economic growth across the state.
Key sectors expected to benefit significantly from Governor Makinde’s
2026 Budget of Economic Expansion,
include infrastructure (₦210.2 billion) 23.55%, education (₦155.2 billion) 17.40%, and health (₦70.8 billion) 7.94%.
According to the forum’s statement signed by the chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and made available to the pressmen in Ibadan by the Public Relations Officer, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the chairman said,
Makinde’s proposed budget demonstrates the administration’s commitment to accelerated development, with 56.37% allocated to capital expenditure and 43.63% recurrent expenditure.
The chairmen commended Governor Makinde’s emphasis on transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management, noting that the budget “provides a clear roadmap for recovery and signals Oyo State’s commitment to modern, people-centered development.”

They added that the governor is not only expanding infrastructure but also creating new opportunities that will anchor innovation and support the emergence of a modern, first-world economy within the state.
The forum also lauded the administration’s continued investment in agriculture, highlighting the governor’s success in transforming agribusiness into a growth engine for rural economies.
They noted that the ₦19.9 billion allocated to agriculture, representing 2.24% of the total budget will further complement ongoing agribusiness initiatives aimed at moving the state economy “from poverty to prosperity.”
The Oyo State Local Government Chairmen’s Forum called on residents to support the government in the effective implementation of the budget.
They also urged the State House of Assembly to give the Appropriation Bill accelerated passage in the interest of continued development and stability.
