A group of aggrieved aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State who contested in the 2023 elections have expressed dissatisfaction over what they described as unfulfilled promises and lack of fairness from Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued on Friday by the group coordinator, Hon. Hammed Taoreed Lucky, and secretary, Hon. Olanrewaju Afees Basorun, the aspirants recalled that Governor Makinde, on December 22, 2022, at the Government House, made commitments to them which they expected would be honored.

According to them, the governor’s assurances raised their hopes, but the promises have since remained unattended, leaving them feeling “marginalized, disappointed, and disillusioned.”

“We are compelled to express our deep disappointment and frustration over the perceived lack of equity, fairness, and fulfillment of promises made by Governor Seyi Makinde. These assurances were made in good faith, but sadly, they have not been kept,” the group stated.

The aspirants called on the governor to take urgent steps to redress their grievances, insisting that equity, fairness, and justice must be upheld in treating all PDP members and aspirants in the state.

They further urged Governor Makinde to demonstrate commitment to the welfare and interests of party members through concrete actions.

Expressing concern over the human toll of the situation, the group revealed that some of their members had passed away while awaiting the fulfillment of the promises, while others are currently hospitalized due to stress and anxiety linked to what they described as neglect and marginalization.

“This unfortunate development has taken a heavy toll on our members, and we implore Governor Makinde to expedite action on our demands to prevent further harm,” the statement read.
