The Elero of Ileroland in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, HRM Oba Wasiu Oyedele Saka Olokolonigi II, has congratulated one of the illustrious daughters of Ilero, Mordiyya Azeez, on her outstanding achievement at the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships in Jeonju, South Korea.

Mordiyya Azeez, an indigene of Yebe Compound in Ilero and Assistant Superintendent with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and veteran athlete, won the gold medal in the Women’s Javelin W50 event after recording an impressive winning throw of 37.74 metres.

The monarch, in a congratulatory message signed and made available to acrossnigerianews.com, described the feat as a source of immense pride to Ileroland, Oyo State and Nigeria, noting that the achievement had further placed the name of the ancient community on the global sporting map.

Oba Olokolonigi II lauded Mordiyyah for her determination, discipline and commitment to excellence, particularly her ability to combine a demanding career in the Nigerian Immigration Service with a successful career in athletics.

According to the monarch, the gold medal is not only a personal achievement for the athlete but also a significant inspiration to the sons and daughters of Ilero, particularly younger people who aspire to excel in sports and other fields of endeavour.

He said Mordiyyah’s accomplishment had demonstrated that participation in sports does not constitute a barrier to career advancement, stressing that individuals can successfully combine sporting excellence with professional and career development when they remain committed and disciplined.

The monarch further described the victory as a moral booster for young people in Ileroland and beyond, urging them to reject limiting beliefs and pursue their aspirations with courage, determination and perseverance.

He noted that Mordiyyah’s victory had earned her the status of a world champion in her age category and contributed to Nigeria’s medal haul at the Jeonju 2026 championships, which brought together veteran athletes from more than 90 countries.

Oba Olokolonigi II said the achievement was particularly significant because the World Masters Athletics Championships provide veteran athletes with an international platform to continue competing at an elite level, adding that Azeez had demonstrated that age should not be a limitation to the pursuit of excellence.

The Elero therefore called on all sons and daughters of Ileroland to draw inspiration from the athlete’s achievement and refuse to place limitations on what they can accomplish in life.

He said: “With determination and perseverance, no mountain is insurmountable to climb,” while encouraging the people of Ilero to continue striving for excellence in their respective fields.

The monarch prayed to Almighty God to continue to guide, strengthen and bless Mordiyyah’, as well as make her journey and that of all sons and daughters of Ileroland smooth and successful in their various endeavours.

He also expressed confidence that the achievement would inspire more young talents from Ileroland to take advantage of opportunities in sports and other areas capable of bringing honour to the community and the country.
