Akintayo Fights Cultism, Backs Brilliant Students in Ibadan North East
In a bid to combat cultism and promote academic excellence among secondary school students, the Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Honourable Ibrahim Akintayo, has launched an anti-cultism sensitization campaign across the Local Government Area.

The event, held at the Council Secretariat, brought together students from various secondary schools, political stakeholders, and education officers. The programme featured a lecture on the dangers of cultism delivered by Dr. Olufemi Michael of the University of Ibadan, who warned students against the lure of cult groups, urging them to focus on education and positive values.
In addition to the awareness campaign, Honourable Akintayo distributed free exercise books to the students as part of his commitment to improving access to educational materials. He further promised to sponsor the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) registration fees for students who perform well academically, a pledge that was met with enthusiastic applause from both students and educators.
Speaking at the event, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Omolara Aremu, commended the initiative, describing it as a crucial step in line with the education agenda of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
“This programme reflects the Chairman’s proactive approach to educational development and aligns with Governor Makinde’s vision of a secure and educated future for our youth,” Aremu said.

Also present was the Local Inspector of Education, Mrs. Mopelola Jimoh, who lauded Honourable Akintayo’s continued support for students, calling his interventions “remarkable and impactful.”
In his address, Honourable Akintayo advised students to avoid bad influences, maintain discipline, and associate with peers who inspire positive growth. He reiterated his administration’s focus on youth empowerment through education and moral guidance.

The sensitization programme is part of a broader strategy by the Ibadan North East Local Government to tackle social vices and strengthen educational foundations within the community.
