…Security Chiefs, Lawmakers Commend Project, Pledge Continued Crackdown on Crime

In a significant move to strengthen security in Ibadan North-East, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, has commissioned the newly refurbished Operation Burst Headquarters at Goodwill Area, Adekile, Orita-Aperin.

The commissioning, which marked Akintayo’s first anniversary in office, aligns with efforts by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to tackle insecurity across the state.

Once identified as a security flashpoint, Ibadan North-East has seen increased attention from the state and local authorities.

Speaking to journalists at the event, Hon. Akintayo emphasized the urgent need to secure the area following repeated reports of criminal activity.

“The establishment of this Operation Burst base is in response to multiple petitions we received from residents, especially from the Adekile axis,” Akintayo stated.

“Our administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy for crime, and this is a step toward complementing Governor Makinde’s broader security agenda.”

He also appealed to the Director General of Operation Burst to deploy additional personnel to the post, citing the area’s volatile history and the need for sustained security presence.

In his remarks, Colonel James Ajibola (Rtd), Director General of Operation Burst, commended Hon. Akintayo for his commitment to security.

“This refurbished base is a significant milestone. I urge other local government chairmen to emulate this leadership in enhancing grassroots security,” he said, assuring residents that Operation Burst would maintain strong collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard the area.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Abiodun Babalola, the member representing Ibadan North-East I in the State House of Assembly, praised the project as the most robust security infrastructure among the 33 local governments in the state.

He pledged to support the initiative further by donating solar street lights in the area.

Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, represented by Area Commander Oluwasemiodiotun Shado, assured residents that law enforcement would continue its crackdown on criminal elements across the state.

“Security is a collective responsibility,” he said, urging the public to share credible intelligence with the police.

Compol Sunday Odukoya, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, lauded the state government’s unwavering commitment to public safety.

“Governor Makinde has consistently prioritized the security of lives and property in Oyo State. This local government initiative reflects that same vision,” he said.

Former Oyo Commissioner of Police and Executive Adviser on Rule of Law to the Governor, Compol Ayodele Sonubi, advised the community to protect and make good use of the new facility.

“This is a chance to change the narrative of youth restiveness in the area,” he stated.

Local political leader, Alhaji Nureni Akanbi, and Hon. Sunday Adeyanju, former Senior Special Assistant on BESDA, also commended the initiative. They called on residents—especially those in Ward 4—to take ownership of the facility and support security agencies in maintaining peace.

It will be recalled that Goodwill Adekile, Orita-Aperin, has long been a hotspot for unrest, notably during previous administrations when clashes involving the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) led to the deaths of the factional leaders of the Union, Alhaji Lateef Salako and several individuals, including a Divisional Police Officer.

The refurbished Operation Burst Headquarters is expected to serve as a stronghold for intelligence gathering, surveillance, and rapid response, helping to stabilize the area and promote development.
