…… 15 elderly widows also receive 10kg bags of rice
The Chairman of Ido Local Government, Oyo State, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, has empowered 80 residents across the 10 political wards of the council with cash grants, as part of efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship and support grassroots livelihoods.
The beneficiaries, comprising 40 widows and 40 youths, each received ₦30,000 at an empowerment programme held at the Ido Local Government Secretariat.
In addition to the cash grants, 15 elderly widows received 10kg bags of rice each as a special welfare package aimed at reducing the food burden on vulnerable households.
Speaking at the event, Adeojo said the initiative reflected his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and the welfare of vulnerable members of the community.
He explained that beneficiaries were selected across Wards 1 to 10 to ensure equitable distribution of the intervention.
> “Our widows and youths deserve our support. This token is to tell them that government cares about their welfare. We carefully selected beneficiaries across all 10 wards to ensure fairness and equity.
> “We will continue to roll out more empowerment programmes to tackle poverty and unemployment in Ido Local Government,” he said.
The chairman urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the financial assistance, particularly by investing in their businesses and other productive ventures that could improve their livelihoods.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Kamorudeen Gbadamosi, commended Adeojo for what he described as people-oriented leadership, particularly his focus on women, widows and youth empowerment.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and helpful in the face of prevailing economic difficulties. They also prayed for the success of the administration.
The event was attended by political functionaries, ward leaders, the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Aminu Sarafadeen, heads of departments and other community stakeholders.
