…Says Education Remains Key to Sustainable Development
The Chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, has awarded five-year scholarships worth over ₦55 million collectively to five indigent students from the local government studying at Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan.
The scholarship given by Adeojo, valued at more than ₦11 million for each beneficiary, is expected to cover the students throughout the five-year duration of their respective programmes, in what the local government described as a major investment in the future of its youths.
The scholarship presentation was held at the Ido Local Government Secretariat, with the Chairman represented by the Secretary of the Local Government, Alhaji Kamorudeen Gbadamosi.
Also present at the event were the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Aminu Sarafadeen; Director of Administration and General Services, Mr. Adelu Victor; and the Deputy Director of Administration and General Services.
Speaking at the presentation, Gbadamosi said the initiative reflected the administration’s determination to ensure that financial difficulties did not prevent deserving young people from pursuing higher education.
He said, “Education remains one of the most important investments any responsible government can make in the lives of its young people. We believe that no indigent but brilliant student should be denied the opportunity to acquire quality education because of financial constraints.”
According to him, the Adeojo administration considers education a critical pillar of human capital development and sustainable growth, adding that the local government would continue to support deserving students within the limits of available resources.
He urged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by the local government.
“This scholarship is an opportunity and also a responsibility. I want you to remain focused, disciplined and committed to your studies. You must make the most of this opportunity and ensure that your academic success becomes a source of pride to your families and the entire Ido Local Government,” he said.
The beneficiaries, who attended the presentation with members of their families, expressed gratitude to Adeojo and the entire local government administration for the gesture.
They described the scholarship as a major relief that would enable them to concentrate fully on their studies without the burden of worrying about the financial demands of their education.
The families of the beneficiaries also commended the Chairman for what they described as a meaningful intervention in the lives of the students, noting that the five-year commitment would provide them with greater financial stability throughout their university education.
The Ido Local Government administration reiterated that the scholarship scheme formed part of its broader commitment to investing in the people and creating opportunities for young residents to acquire the education and skills required to contribute meaningfully to the development of the local government and the wider society.
