Oyo SWAp Office Engages Health Sector Stakeholders On Strategies To Achieve HOPE Project DLIs
The Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) Coordination office of the Oyo State Ministry of Health has engaged all the key stakeholders in the Oyo health sector on the strategies to be deployed to achieve all the Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs) of the HOPE Project. This event took place on Friday 28th February, 2025 at the Conference Hall of the State Ministry of Health. The Nigerian Human Capital Opportunity for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) Project is a World Bank Assisted Program for Result (PforR) initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria aimed at supporting the Nigerian Health (and Education) sector at the National and Subnational (State) level in strengthening their human and financial resources management for better performance.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi in her opening remarks describes the HOPE Project as one of the rewarding outcomes of the Sector Wide Approach in Health (SWAp). She said, ‘ We all know that SWAp has come to stay in assisting to improve the Nigerian Health system for better, therefore, I implore us all to key into it. The HOPE-Health Project will support the government efforts on the health system. Already, the government of Oyo State has laid a solid foundation for the success of the HOPE Project implementation. I want to inform you that the State Government through the Ministry and its agencies has renovated more than two Hundred PHCs across the thirty (33) Local Government Area of the State, with another batch of PHCs to be renovated in the PHC revitalization program that has started. Also, it is not news that the recruitment of Health workers at the General Hospital has been done and about four thousand (4000) health workers to be added to the PHC workforce soon.’
In his presentation, the State SWAp Desk Officer, Dr Oluwatunmise Adeagbo, applauded the State Governor, His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde (GSM) for being among the first set of Governors that shows interest in HOPE Project. He appreciated the Honourable Commissioner for her immeasurable support for all the activities of the SWAp Compact initiative and the HOPE Project in particular. He highlighted all the building blocks and the key principles of the Sector-Wide Approach initiatives to the stakeholders present. He also explained the nitty gritty of all the Disbursement Linked Indicators of the HOPE- Health Project, in relationship with the Health Sector Strategic Blueprint (HSSB).
There was a deep-dive session where all the invited key programs officer strategies on how to achieve all the HOPE Health Project DLIs for the state. This session was led by the UNICEF Technical Consultant, Dr Azeez.
Other Dignitaries present were the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health; Dr Akintunde Ayinde, the OYSHIA Executive Secretary; Dr Sola Akande, the OYSPHCB Executive Secretary; Dr Babatunde Muideen Olatunji represented by the IMPACT Project Manager Dr Johnson Osoko, the Director of Public Health of the State Ministry of Health Dr Akintunde Babatunde ably represented by his Deputy Dr Johnson Babalola among other prominent persons.
