The senatorial candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Akeem Salawu, has called on the Oyo State Government to conduct a thorough investigation into the violent disturbance that occurred in the Ojoo area of Akinyele Local Government Area, which reportedly claimed two lives.
Ojoo, a major suburb of Ibadan, was thrown into chaos in the early hours of Wednesday following a communal clash along the Ojoo Expressway. The violence disrupted commercial activities and resulted in the deaths of two persons, while residents and motorists fled the area for safety.
Reacting to the development, Salawu expressed deep concern over the incident, describing the violence as unfortunate, avoidable, and a setback to the peace and security of the state.
He urged the Oyo State Government and relevant security agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the remote and immediate causes of the crisis, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice to prevent a recurrence.
According to him, understanding the circumstances that led to the clash is essential to restoring public confidence and sustaining peace in the affected community.
Salawu also appealed to residents, particularly youths, to remain calm and shun all forms of violence, stressing that lasting development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and mutual understanding.
He encouraged members of the community to embrace peaceful coexistence and resolve disputes through lawful and non-violent means, while calling on all stakeholders to work collectively towards maintaining harmony across Oyo State.
